Michigan Census Council
Southeast Michigan Census Council
The Southeast Michigan Census Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting access to and use of demographic and related statistics in the Southeast Michigan area. Formerly known as the Detroit Regional Census Advisory Committee, we have been active for over thirty years in such projects as delineating census tract boundaries, creating and publishing the Census Tract Coding Guides, sponsoring census user conferences, workshops and topic luncheons, and providing networking opportunities for data users. Members include government and private non-profit agencies, libraries, consultants, school districts, academicians, citizen interest groups and private companies.
Joining SEMCC means participating in the network of census data users in Michigan. Members receive:
*** Bi-monthly newsletter with updates on census issues, reviews of census reports, information on access to data from a wide variety of public sources, and more. The emailed newsletter includes links providing direct access to information which is useful to you.
*** Email announcements of important new data releases
*** Phone and email access to SEMCC Executive Director Patricia (Patty) Becker, who knows where "all the bodies are buried" in federal statistics, as well as how to use the frustrating American FactFinder system for accessing census data.
