     Accomplishments Through April, 2003

     The Center for Information Development and Service (CIDS), funded by a grant from United
     Way of Oakland County, has been operating since June, 2002. 

     CIDS accomplishments to date (in alphabetical order by organization) include:

Area Agency on Aging 1B: Data were developed which directly support the formula funding allocations to the Agency under the federal Older Americans Act.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit: Developed data on children age 5-17, used for agency planning.

Catholic Social Services of Oakland County:  Developed data on race/ethnicity by income by community; and on numbers of persons age 55 and over (in several age cohorts) by community for the whole county. The data on seniors are for both low income and general populations.  Also, data on growth over the decade of Hispanics by community, and on the distribution of households without an auto.

Common Ground Sanctuary: In progress: analyzing database of crisis calls.

Fairwinds Girl Scout Council: Developed data on women age 18-29 statewide by county.

Food Bank of Oakland County: Produced maps showing distribution of poverty by census tract compared to location of Food Bank sites. Assisted Yad Ezra, one of the major Food Bank programs, with their planning by linking various data sets with their client database.

Karmanos Cancer Center: Produced maps showing census tracts and communities where patients participating in their programs live. 

Oakland County Child Care Council: Assisted in the design of a wage and training needs survey. Helped develop a grant proposal for conducting the survey and analyzing the results. Developed data on the number of families with employed parents with children under 6 in which there is no non-working parent at home.

Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency:  Developed tables showing (1) number of Head StartService Agency: eligible children in each school district, (2) number of WIC eligible children in each city/township, and (3) number of grandparents raising grandchildren in each city/-township. In progress: maps of the Pontiac area and the county as a whole showing census tracts and communities where participants in several of OLHSA’s programs live.

POH Medical Center:  Assembled and developed data on health insurance coverage.

Waterford Senior Citizens Center:  Assembled and developed data related to transportation planning.

Also, for the UWOC central office, CIDS produced: (1) wall maps of the county showing distributions of children in poverty, total poverty population, and race/ethnicity; and (2) tables covering nine northern Oakland County communities, showing the number of families with employed parents with children (in various age cohorts) in which there is no non-working parent at home.
